Me at home in my vanWho is Vandiman ?

Well it's basically me, so who is "me" ?   I've always had a keen interest in anything practical, I grew up helping my dad fix various cars by the roadside as was the norm back in the 70's, this led to a keen interest in engineering and I studied electronics to HND level which kickstarted a career based around electronics and customer service which has involved considerable overseas travel which in turn funded the rebuild & Modification of a number of vehicles over the past 30 year culminating in the purchase of a Volkswagen T4 Campervan as a project a couple of years ago.  I've always been a hands on type of guy both at work and at home and combined with being a Yorkshireman I've never paid anyone to do something I can do myself which has over the years meant I have gained quite a skill set.

To say being an owner of a campervan is life changing is really an understatement... Once we became "weekend warriors" it really made me think about what I wanted from life going forward and combined with the company I had worked in for over 20 years becoming less and less about people and more and more about profit margins I decided life was too short to spend it stuck behind a desk being mostly miserable and being just the right side of 50 it was my last chance to carve a living working for myself.

The big question was what to do ? The short answer is anything I can turn my hand to that's legal ! And while the Campervan community is great and working on vans is somewhat seasonal so a couple of "weekend jobs" highlighted a potential niche doing small one off jobs that the main trades don't really want which would pay the bills and make my life considerable more varied than being a desk jockey !  so Vandiman was born covering both the DIY / Handyman side of things, work on campervans and bespoke design and fabrication services within a single business.
